We had the very fortunate opportunity to host a fundraiser for Linda Allen and Trent Cherry to assist them in their efforts to raise money for their triathlon to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. They did a wonderful job getting the word out and bringing together a fantastic group of people to spend the evening raising money for a great cause. Coupled with a large bundle of prizes they raffled off to those who purchased tickets, they were able to put a large dent in the $7,000 goal for their race.
From their team website:
We decided to participate in this event because of a couple of our close friends shared with us about Team In Training and what the mission is. In a nutshell, everyone knows someone who either has cancer or has had cancer in the past. Team In Training is dedicated to raising money to find a cure. They have teamed up with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and we have decided to join this cause in raising money to find a cure. With the financial support of our friends and family and the physical efforts on our part we feel that we are doing our part in this cause. We will be training over the next 5 months, at least 4 days a week to prepare ourselves for an Olympic distance Triathlon. This is not an IronMan Triathlon, but it will be a significant challenge to both of us. Linda doesn't believe that anyone should be in water lower then 104 degrees, so an ocean swim of almost a mile is a huge milestone accomplishment for her. Trent quit smoking after 20+ years so the 10K (6.2 miles) run will be his challenge. We both are looking forward to the bike ride of 40K (24.8 Miles). Neither one of us have ever attempted ANY TYPE of event such as this in the past, but we are looking forward to competing and completing this and hopefully many more in the future.
